After the Swansea docks closed in 1969 the area laid waste for a number of years. It was eventually sold to the local authority and after several years plans were put in place to redevelop the site.

Today the Swansea Marina has been transformed into thriving riverside marina with around 1000 berths and various types of accommodation.
